Prima Materia (2023, 2026)

Prima Materia is an alchemical term for the base matter of all things, the raw substance from which everything is made and to which everything returns. This is a concept intrinsically tied to the ocean in my mind. When I try to visualize time, it too behaves much like water— it creases, pulls, bends, and twirls. At times, it is murky, except for when it is clear. Both time and water defy form. They move in one direction. They are simultaneously consistent and unpredictable. They are vessels of great change. This series is a tribute to gentleness and to violence, to water and to time.
